San Francisco Bay Oil Spill
San Francisco sued the owner and many other people for spilling 58,000 gallons of oil into the San Francisco Bay. The oil has killed or seriously injuring up to 2,200 birds and many living organisms that live in the sea, harmed the jobs of many fisherman and tourism in the bay. The picture on the right shows how badly damaged this beach has been affected by the oil spill. The license of the pilot was suspended. Many volunteers around the bay are helping out to clean up the mess. Special crews with special oil equipment were hired by the city of San Francisco to clean up oil damaged areas. The crab season was put on hold for 3 weeks pending results of investigation of contamination. The local fisherman succeeded in winning a lawsuit from the owner of the ship for lost income over the 3 week period. Local people will be weary in the future to eat crab or other marine life caught in the bay out of fear that the food will be contaminated. My feelings toward this subject are that how could you run your boat into a bridge; was there nobody paying attention were there people sleeping. San Francisco could be dealing wit this issue for a very long time. The image below shows a picture of a bird that has been greatly harmed by the oil spill.
